powerglide has become the transmission of choice for many different forms of motorsports.
Rockcrawling is now becoming one of them. Over the last few years a group of top
teams have realized the benefits of using the powerglide and have been successful.
The 'glide' has many benefits, below is a list of just a few:
- Only 90 lbs. complete
with torque converter, this is 35-50lbs lighter than most automatic transmissions
currently being used.
- 18.5"
from the back of the block to the back of the adapter. The transmission is 16.5"
and the adapter is 2". This is 3"-7" shorter than most other combinations.
- 12.5"
wide at the pan rails, this gives you improved drive shaft and exhaust clearance
on both sides.
Here
are some of the benefits to using a Dedenbear Superglide Transmission Case:
- Wall thickness
increased by at least 30 percent in all critical areas.
- Smaller
diameter bellhousing for more floorboard clearance.
- Large
¼" NPT cooler line bosses for better strength and cooling.
- Rear
bolt bosses for the transfer case adapter have been beefed up to prevent case
breakage from the transfer case torque.

availability of these parts will make it possible to build a 100% new racing powerglide
with no transmission core needed. Imagine
building a "glide without the core teardown, part cleaning and machining
time. All the parts are built to meet or exceed factory specifications with proper
heat treating, precision machining and superb fit and finish. All
the pistons are machined from billet aluminum for superior strength, pins and
shafts are ground round for a perfecft fit, and where needed, parts are hardened
for long service life. Every
part is custom made. The snap rings and e-clips are exactly the same thickness
as stock, the springs are wound to fit like factory, even the bolts are specially
made to match the GM head design and thread length.
